Its intensity. "Designed to build strength and endurance, this is an aggressive workout that moves quickly from one pose to another," says Jasmine Kaloudis, a Yoga Alliance certified instructor based in Philadelphia, PA.

Best Suits
The athletically inclined, and those looking to improve overall fitness, conditioning and endurance. “It’s also very good for Type A personalities who may have trouble maintaining concentration in slower practices,” explains Ashley Turner, a certified yoga instructor in Santa Monica CA, whose clients include celebs like Michelle Branch and Pete Yorn. You may want to choose another style if you are a beginner, haven’t worked out in awhile or are working with an injury -- this yoga style's rapid sequences may leave you feeling frustrated and left behind.

What It’s Like:
“A quickly paced class that moves from one pose to the next with few lengthy holds of posture,” says Rebecca Pacheco, a certified yoga instructor in Boston, This isn’t the class to attend if you are looking to relax or meditate. “At the end of the session you will feel more like you have completed a traditional weight training or callisthenic workout than you would with any other type of yoga,” says Kaloudis.

Calorie Burn:
“Between 300-350 calories per hour, with a significant ‘after burn’ following classes -- meaning one's metabolic rate is increased for several hours following a vigorous practice, which stimulates all major muscle groups,” says Pacheco.
